About this trip
Departing from Errachidia toward Merzouga, then a camel caravan across the orange dunes to catch the sunset from the top of a dune. Overnight in a Berber camp with traditional tents, a tagine dinner and Gnawa music, and a sunrise over the sand.
Day-by-day itinerary
Errachidia – Erfoud – Merzouga – Camel Caravan – Desert Camp
Depart Errachidia in the morning and drive through the Ziz Valley and palm groves to Erfoud, then continue to the village of Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. After a briefing and tea, mount your camel and ride into the orange sand sea as the sun lowers, reaching the crest of a tall dune for sunset. Continue to a private Berber camp deep in the dunes. Dinner of traditional tagine, followed by Gnawa drumming and storytelling around the campfire. Overnight in a comfortable desert tent.

Sunrise over the Dunes – Khamlia Village – Merzouga
Wake before dawn and climb a nearby dune to watch the sunrise light up the Erg Chebbi sand — one of the most photographed moments in Morocco. Return to camp for breakfast, then ride the camels back to Merzouka. In the afternoon, visit the village of Khamlia, home to a Gnawa community, and enjoy a performance of traditional music. Optional 4x4 excursion to nearby nomad families and fossil beds. Second night at a small guesthouse in Merzouga or back at the desert camp.

Merzouga – Rissani – Errachidia – Return
After breakfast, depart Merzouga and drive back through Rissani, with an optional stop at the traditional souk and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif. Continue through the Ziz Gorges and palm oases to Errachidia, where the trip concludes. Drop-off at your hotel or the Errachidia airport.
