The 2 Days Desert Tour to Zagora is the shortest Sahara getaway from Marrakech, ideal for travellers with limited time who still want the desert experience. You cross the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, stop in Ouarzazate, then follow the Draa valley — a 200 km corridor of date-palm oases and mud-brick kasbahs — down to Zagora, the gateway to the desert. A camel caravan carries you into the dunes for a night in a Berber desert camp with dinner and music under the stars. The next day you return to Marrakech via the Draa valley and the Atlas. The dunes here are smaller than Merzouga's, but the journey is shorter and the palm-oasis scenery is unforgettable.
Day-by-day itinerary
Marrakech – Tizi n'Tichka – Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Zagora – Desert Camp
Early pick-up from your Marrakech accommodation and drive across the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m). Stop in Ouarzazate for a short visit, then descend into the Draa valley — a vast corridor of date-palm oases and mud-brick kasbahs. Continue to Zagora, the historic gateway to the desert marked by the famous 'Timbuktu 52 days' sign. Meet your camel and trek into the dunes at sunset to a Berber desert camp. Dinner under the stars and traditional music around the campfire. Overnight in a desert camp tent.

Wake early to watch the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, ride the camels back to Zagora and drive back up the Draa valley, stopping for photos of the palm oases and kasbahs. Pass through Ouarzazate and cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass back to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon. Drop-off at your accommodation.
