The 3 Days Imlil Valley & Berber Villages trek is a gentle cultural journey through the heart of the High Atlas, designed for walkers who prefer village life and human encounters over high altitudes. Starting in Imlil, you cross the Tizi n'Tamaterte pass to the remote village of Tachddirt, then follow the Imnane valley through a string of traditional Berber villages — Ounskra, Tamguiste, Ikkis — sleeping each night in a family guesthouse. Your Berber guide introduces you to local families, the rhythm of village life, and the centuries-old irrigation systems that keep the terraced fields green. With only modest ascents and 4–5 hours of walking per day, this is the perfect introduction to Atlas Mountains trekking.
Day-by-day itinerary
Marrakech – Imlil – Tizi n'Tamaterte – Tachddirt
Drive from Marrakech to Imlil (1,740 m), meet your guide and mule team, and begin the trek below the village of Tamatert. Climb over the Tizi n'Tamaterte pass (2,279 m) with panoramic views toward Jebel Oukaimeden, then descend to the remote village of Tachddirt (2,300 m), one of the highest permanently inhabited villages in the High Atlas. Overnight in a Berber guesthouse with a home-cooked dinner.

Tachddirt – Imnane Valley – Ikkis – Imsker
Leave Tachddirt and follow the Imnane valley downstream, passing through the Berber villages of Ounskra, Tamguiste, and Ikkis. Stop to visit local families and watch daily village life — bread baking, wool spinning, and terrace farming. Picnic lunch by a spring, then continue to the village of Imsker (1,300 m) for the second night in a family guesthouse.

Imsker – Tizi n'Lbour – Imlil – Marrakech
Climb from Imsker over the Tizi n'Lbour pass (2,100 m), leaving the Imnane valley and rejoining the Ait Mizane valley. Descend to Imlil, with lunch on a terrace under walnut trees. Transfer by vehicle back to Marrakech in the afternoon.
