About this trip
A seven-day mountain expedition beginning in the village of Imlil and crossing the high Atlas through remote Berber villages and alpine pastures. We acclimatize around the stunning turquoise Lake Ifni, the only natural lake in the High Atlas, before making the final push to the summit of Mount Toubkal at 4,167 meters. The trip includes transport from Marrakech, full-board meals, mule support for luggage, accommodation in mountain refuges and Berber guesthouses, and a certified mountain guide throughout.
Day-by-day itinerary
Marrakech – Imlil – Tizi Mzik – Tizi Oussem
Drive from Marrakech to Imlil (1,740 m), meet your guide and mule team, and begin the trek over the Tizi Mzik pass (2,489 m) with sweeping views of the Ait Mizane valley. Descend into the Azzaden valley and reach the Berber village of Tizi Oussem (1,900 m) for the first night in a village guesthouse.

Tizi Oussem – Tizi n'Lbour Pass – Imsker
Climb from Tizi Oussem over the Tizi n'Lbour pass (2,100 m), leaving the Azzaden valley and entering the Imnane valley. Pass through several traditional Berber villages and descend to Imsker (1,300 m), where you spend the night in a family guesthouse.

Imsker – Tizi n'Tamaterte – Tachddirt
Trek up the Imnane valley and over the Tizi n'Tamaterte pass (2,279 m), with panoramic views toward Jebel Oukaimeden. Descend to the remote village of Tachddirt (2,300 m), one of the highest permanently inhabited villages in the High Atlas. Overnight in a Berber guesthouse.

Tachddirt – Tizi n'Ouagane Pass – Tizi n'Isri – Lake Ifni
A long and rewarding day. Cross the high Tizi n'Ouagane pass (2,800 m) and descend toward the village of Tizi n'Isri, then continue to the shores of Lake Ifni (2,295 m) — the only natural lake in the High Atlas, a striking turquoise pool ringed by dramatic cliffs. Camp beside the lake for the night.

Lake Ifni – Tizi n'Ouanoums Pass – Neltner Refuge
Climb the steep scree slope to the Tizi n'Ouanoums pass (3,664 m), the highest point of the trek before the summit. Descend the far side to the Neltner Refuge (3,207 m) at the base of Mount Toubkal. Rest and prepare for the summit attempt. Overnight at the refuge.

Neltner Refuge – Toubkal Summit (4,167 m) – Imlil
An early start for the summit push. Climb the south cirque of Toubkal to the highest point in North Africa (4,167 m), taking in 360° views of the Atlas, Anti-Atlas, and the Sahara. Descend back to the refuge for lunch, then continue all the way down to Imlil. Celebratory dinner and overnight in a guesthouse in Imlil.

Imlil – Marrakech
After breakfast, transfer by vehicle back to Marrakech, arriving around midday. Drop-off at your accommodation, with the rest of the day free to explore the city or rest after the trek.
