About this trip
The Day Trip to Essaouira is a relaxing full-day excursion from Marrakech to Morocco's most charming coastal town. Known as the 'Wind City of Africa', Essaouira has been a fishing port and trading hub for centuries, and its fortified medina is a UNESCO World Heritage site. You travel west across argan-tree plains and goat-grazed hills (about 2.5 hours), then spend the day exploring the blue-boat harbour, walking the 18th-century sea ramparts (Skala de la Kasbah), wandering the whitewashed medina alleys full of artisans and thuya-wood workshops, and enjoying fresh seafood at the port. With gentle walking, ocean breezes, and a laid-back pace, this is the perfect contrast to the heat and bustle of Marrakech.
Day-by-day itinerary
Marrakech – Essaouira – Marrakech
Early morning pick-up from your Marrakech accommodation and drive west toward the Atlantic coast (about 2.5 hours), passing argan-tree forests where goats climb the branches. Stop at a women's argan-oil cooperative to see the traditional extraction process. On arrival in Essaouira, begin a guided walk through the UNESCO-listed medina, along the Skala de la Kasbah sea ramparts, and down to the blue-boat fishing port. Enjoy a fresh seafood lunch at the port, then free time in the afternoon to browse the souks, thuya-wood workshops, and art galleries. Depart Essaouira in the late afternoon and arrive back in Marrakech around 19:00.
